Not Mine: Letter from an Old Lady

82 year old Glady's writes (to M. Moore):
I am 82 years old. I well remember the excellent leadership of FDR who had us making sacrifices for the war effort. We knew our country was at war and we wanted to have a part in the effort to defeat the enemy if we could help if it meant only to stop wearing nylons, saving fat, handmixing oleo and yellow coloring, taking trains, buses, etc. because we could not get gasolene which was rationed only for use to go to work. We did not expect lower taxes and would have been offended to be treated like children who do not understand the crisis of war. We are now being treated like spoiled children while our national guard, who we thought were supposed to protect the homefront, are forced to extend their overseas duty while the myth of "no draft" is perpetuated.
